True City: Make The Hidden Visible.

Project overview

"Had I not seen the building, I might not have suggested exposing the Air Bag, allowing people to see inside the shoe."

The building referred to is the Pompidou in Paris. This structure inspired the creation of one of the world's most iconic sneakers. It was a quote from Tinker Hatfield, the godfather of sneaker design, that sparked the idea for Nike's very first iPhone app.

Nike True City, much like the Air Max 1 bubble, offered an exclusive window into key European cities through the eyes of insiders.

The app provided pinpoint access to the latest and most exclusive Nike product launches and VIP events. To drive further engagement and deepen the connection between the brand and its audience, True City enabled users to broadcast their own views of the cities. It empowered them to populate the maps with their favourite spots and share local insights on the fly.

Upon launch in London, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Amsterdam, and Barcelona, the app quickly rose to number 1 across the App Store in Europe.
